To market, to market

Chelsea Market is an enclosed urban food court on 9th Avenue in New York, around the corner from the famous High Line elevated walkway.

In addition to restaurants, bookstores and pop-up boutiques, the warehouse building also houses the Food Network and NY1 television studios, and a couple of Google offices that have spilled over from the corporate headquarters across the street.

Chelsea Market occupies two city blocks on the site of what used to be the National Biscuit Company, where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced.

Continuing the theme of fine food production, the developers of Chelsea Market have encouraged a symbiotic relationship among their tenants with the vendors supplying the local restaurateurs with fresh and organic ingredients, such as seafood, vegetables, fruit and meats.  So Iron Chef Morimoto, and even Buddakan restaurant (where Carrie & Mr Big had their engagement party) source their produce, herbs, and seasonings right next door.

Aussies visiting Chelsea Market will also be gratified to learn you can buy meat pies and lamingtons onsite at Tuckshop.   Delicious!
